Public Safety

For your safety, 24 federal, state and city agencies are on-site and in the event’s Unified Command Center (UCC). These agencies maintain a presence throughout the event in Boston, Cambridge and on the Charles River. The state-owned DCR Esplanade, DCR Hatch Shell and parkways are under the supervision and command of the Massachusetts State Police.

In July 2010, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched this national public awareness campaign. The program is a simple and effective way to raise public awareness and to emphasize the importance of reporting suspicious activity to the proper state and local law enforcement authorities. If you see something suspicious at all please say something by reporting it to one of the many uniformed public safety official onsite on July 3rd and July 4th. Please note that all sound towers are numbered and can easily identify your location.

Emergency Medical Services personnel are located in Boston and Cambridge. As a precautionary measure against extreme heat, Boston EMS will operate mist tents and the DCR will operate water sprays on Storrow Drive. In Boston, dispensers containing complimentary SPF 30 sunscreen will be available. Please protect yourself.

The UCC monitors weather during the event. Should severe weather arise, there is no rain date for the concert. The weather forecast will be announced periodically over the event’s public address system.
